In 2006 the mens team started their year with a tour of England for a return game for Reading UK the previous year. Mike Powers club founder had taken over as coach with former Nashville star Lance Van Putten his assistant. Ben Crist was named as Captain the first American to take that role. Irishman Barry Collins was to win the Best & Fairest award after a stellar year being the first Non-Australian to do so.
The Kookaburras had several solid wins at home but struggled on the road going down to St Louis, Cincinnatti, Milwaukee in the MAAFL as well as poor loss to Baton Rouge. At the Nationals the mens team combined with Milwuakees B team for three competitive games in Div 3.
The Atlanta Lady Kookaburras kept their unbeaten run intact. The Lady Kookas became the first women's team to go on the road with two big wins v Florida and Milwaukee.
