The Atlanta Kookaburras were shocked and saddened recently by passing of former player Michael Johns. Mike who played around a dozen games for the Kookaburras in the 2000-2002 era was close friends with many people around Atlanta where he went to school, played tennis and started his music career.
His music talents led him to being a finalist on American Idol in 2007 and become known to thousands as the friendly Aussie larrikin guy we already knew.
The Kookaburras again take this opportunity to pass on their condolences to Mike's family, his closest friends, many of which are former Kookaburra players and all the people he touched with his fantastic talent and loving spirit.
The Kookaburras will pause for a moments silence prior to their game against Nashville to reflect on losing one of our own.

The Local AARFL 2014 season kicked off on Saturday at Garrard Landing Park in Roswell. Fine sunny conditions greeted past and new players alike. It was Midtown v Roswell/Western Combine and scoring was plentiful early on with Midtown showing the ascendency. With Carson Olsheski rucking in the middle the Bombers dominated center bounces with Josh Trombley capitalizing many tap outs whilst for Roswell, veteran Wayne Kraska was able to shark a couple.
The backlines were solid for both teams with Curtis Jones and Travis Quigley back in Atlanta, shoring up things for Midtown and Justin Willmott and Mike Frost doing the same for Roswell. At the main break however Roswell had stuck their noses in front on the scoreboard leading 4.5.29 to Midtown 4.2.26.

The Atlanta Kookaburras are pleased to announce Mick Keough has accepted the role as Head Coach for the 2014 season. Mick hails from South Australia and grew up playing Aussie Rules from an early age at primary (Elementary) school and continued for 22 years through to 1993 when he landed in America! Mick's junior years were spent playing for Central Districts Juniors in the SANFL (South Australia National Football League) in Adelaide and also spent time in the SAFA's (South Australian Football Association) Amateur league.
After moving to Yeppoon on Queensland's central coast Mick joined the Yeppoon Swans where the team strung together a purple patch winning three Grand Finals in four years, the experience of winning that many GF's in such a short time was euphoric and somewhat surreal, many blokes go their whole carrier and never know the joy of winning the "Big One"
Mick has has been fortunate to tasted Grand Final victory at every club he has played for along with a few defeats and is the only player to play two consecutive Grand Finals for a SAFA club without playing a home and away game (in 'A' grade) between them.
Mick hope's to draw on his years of football experience both good and bad to help the Atlanta Kookaburras develop the same winning spirit and build a strong club that can proudly represent the City of Atlanta locally and at Nationals for years to come.
