The Atlanta Kookaburra teams ventured north to Milwaukee this past weekend and went 1-1 against the Bombers in some of the wettest and muddiest conditions ever seen in USA footy. The field at Brown Deer Park had succumbed to the heavy rains over the past two weeks in the north and could only be described as unfit for any sporting event. But footy goes on regardless and it was the Atlanta Lady Kookaburras who drew first blood with another solid win on the road keeping their unbeaten run intact.
Sporting a new look team the Lady Kookas adapted well to the wet conditions and the heavy ball by still maintaining their team work and running in numbers. Judith Stein again was a match winner with 7 goals up forward with new recruit Katie Grist dominating the ruck allowing plenty of supply to her smaller teammates. The Lady Kookas finished the day 48 point winners 10.8.68 to Milwaukee Lady Bombers 3.2.20. In the men’s game a fierce and close game was the order of the day again in very muddy conditions. Goals were hard to come by as were clean possessions. The Kookas led early and looked like they might upset the home team but couldn’t sustain the effort and despite a big comeback in the last term went down by 9 points 6.7.43 to Milwaukee 8.4.52. As can be seen Atlanta had just as many scoring opportunities but were not as accurate. A telling factor in any wet weather game of footy.
