2000 History

In 2000 the Atlanta Kookaburras hit the ground running and things started to really take off. The club had its first official coach in Jason Lehmann, formerly a player in the North Adelaide reserves in the SANFL. We also had an influx of players, including assistant coach Darren Bowman, Troy Thompson, Mark McKenzie, Phil Hall, Jason Alexander, Anthony Ellis, Dan Todd, David Fijol, Mark Carlson, Bjorn Farrugia, Heath Moore, John Martin and Sam Temme.

The Kookaburras played their first stand-alone game and their first home game on April 22nd 2000 against a Florida team that had help from Sth Carolina and Lousville teams to help make up the numbers. The game was preceded by two hours of picking up rocks around the field at Piedmont Park which was many years prior to the redevelopment. Hence the field from that day would be known to all players as "The Quarry".

The Kookaburras would win that first game 18.16.124 to Florida/SC/Louisville 6.8.44.
