Atlanta women's team are National Champions
Tuesday, 11 October 2005

The Atlanta Lady Kookaburras took all before them on the weekend and became the inaugural USAFL Nationals Champions in the Women's Division. The Lady Kookas had a tough game early Saturday against Florida Fusion winning by just 4 points then rallied well in the afternoon to defeat the Arizona Lady Hawks by 57 points. With two wins on the board this meant they would go straight to the Grand Final Sunday afternoon with the other two teams battling out to see who was to be the challenger.

It was Florida Fusion that made the Grand Final but the Lady Kookas were not going to let this chance slip away. They played an awesome team game of football and when everything was done the Atlanta team were victorious by 29 points. Scores 6.5.41 to 2.0.12. The Lady Kookas celebrated and after four months of practice and preparation thoroughly deserved their win and bring home to Atlanta the clubs first ever National Championship trophy. Congratulations ladies!

The Atlanta men's team joined with New York's "B" team in Div 3 and played some great games. Saturday morning it was a win against Golden Gate/Mojave but in the afternoon they went down to the Vancouver Cougars. The Kookas regrouped and on Sunday morning completed there three pool games with a solid win over the Minnesota Freeze. This win was not enough though to get them into the final which was eventually won by the Minnesota team.

All in all a sensational weekend of footy put on by the Milwaukee club and the USAFL.
