The Atlanta Kookaburras held off a determined Florida Redbacks team on Saturday to record their first win of the regular season by 33 points. In front of a small but enthusiastic crowd the Kookaburras started well with a 5 goal to 2 first quarter and maintained that lead for most of the game.
The Redbacks made sure throughout the day the Kookas earned every score but were not able to capitalize on much of their good work around the field.
The Kookaburras were led up forward by Justin Diamond with 5 individual goals whilst for Florida veteran player Marc Karver kicked 4. Both assistant coaches for the Kookaburras Damien Sheehan and Ross Larosa were standout players for the Atlanta team and are sure to give many teams headaches this year. Notably the Florida team was mostly young and inexeperienced and sure to be harder to beat when the two teams meet again in Tampa next month.
The Kookaburras now with that nice win under their belt head to Baton Rouge LA on April 28th for their next game. The Kookaburras will be looking to revenge a last season loss to the Tigers down in Louisianna.
