The Atlanta Kookaburras are pleased to announce that nine Atlanta Lady Kookaburras will represent the Kookas and the USA on August 4th & 5th in the inaugural games of International Women's Aussie Rules Football in North America. The USA team recently named the USA "Freedom" will join the men's Revolution team in Vancouver Canada for two games over this historic weekend which will also include the first ever international games of junior Aussie Rules footy.
The Kookaburras congratulate the following players and wish them good luck in Vancouver. Judith Stein, Jenny Sarbacker, Dewi Mitchell, Katie Grist, Nikki Peoples, Cathy Reinhardt, Stephanie Powell, Christina Murdock and Denise Lafaver.
The nine Kookaburra representatives will join twelve others from around the country to be the first USA Women's team to play internationally outside of Australia. The Kookaburras will also have another representative as Atlanta Lady Kookaburras club coach Wayne Kraska will coach the USA Freedom in their first games of footy against Canada.
Just to add another Kookaburra flavor to the party the new USA Freedom uniform was designed by former Kookaburra Paul Ryan who now resides in London UK. The design which won't be released until after the players wear them on Saturday for the first time is one of many efforts of Pauls over the years for footy in the USA. Congratulations Paul.!
The international games give both countries the chance to see where their development programs stand as players and coaches prepare for a trip to Australia in August 2008 for the International Cup for the men's team and a coinciding tour by the USA "Freedom" Womens Australian Rules Football Team. |
