Its pleasing to see that the Atlanta Lady Kookaburras are not resting on their laurels and doing everything they can to retain their unbeaten record and shoot for a record 4th straight National Championships win come October in Colorado Springs CO.
Currently there are a dozen or so committed ladies training in Atlanta and several other team members that now live away from Atlanta, working towards their first 2008 goal. At the end of May the first ever Women's Footy tournament away from the Nationals will take place in Phoenix Arizona.
Three other teams will be looking to stop Atlanta's winning run in the Arizona sunshine that weekend, with hopes of maybe of also wrestling that bigger trophy at the end of the year away from the Lady Kookas grasp.
The Lady Kookas are currently training 3 days per week most weeks through to the May 31st event with sessions on Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays. Skills and more skills has been the focus of the Lady Kookas by Head Coach Wayne Kraska for pre-season.
"We are going to be far more skillful this year than ever before, that is for certain" Coach Kraska said this week.
"Towards the end of the season we will switch to more fitness training as we prepare for the Nationals at altitude in Colorado Springs, but for now its just skill development. Everything will be still focused however on that final event" he added.
The Lady Kookas have a tough away schedule this year with only the one home game in September but are looking for more players to join in and enjoy the sport, the fitness aspect and the socializing that goes with Aussie Rules Football in Atlanta.
Check out the Women's training page for more info and for contact details if you want to get involved. You wont be disappointed.
