The Atlanta Lady Kookaburra's representatives celebrated two great wins by the USA Freedom in Vancouver Canada this past weekend. Alongside the best players from around the country the Kooka ladies led from the front and with their new teamates and stamped the USA Freedom as the best women's footy team outside Australia.
The earlier appointment of Lady Kooka Jenny Sarbacker as Captain of the Freedom was a wonderful reward for someone that has worked so hard perfecting her game. Sarbacker lining up in the center was all ready to set the game alight but suffered a shock shoulder injury in the first five minutes of the first game and would not play again for the weekend.
Despite this setback and losing another player early in Suzy Thomas the team center half forward from Milwaukee the Freedom played like true stars and led the Canadians at every chance. Judith Stein played well in both games with four goals in the Saturday game where the Freedom won 7.7.49 to Canada 0.0.0 Also doing well was Atlanta's Christina Murdock and Denise Lafaver in the backline.
On Sunday in the full game Stein again shone out with another four goals from Center Half Forward with Nikki Peoples and evergreen Cathy Reinhardt having great games. Dewi Mitchell added an International goal to her resume as did Stephanie Powell kicking the last goal of the Sunday game as the USA rolled to a huge win 14.13.97 to Canada 0.0.0
Freedom coach Wayne Kraska was estatic at the teams endeavor and team work as the USA women combined as one from their first team meeting to the last siren. Since all the team had never trained together and some had never met prior to Saturday it made the performance of the team something even more special.
