Lady Kookas looking back but also forward
Thursday, 31 January 2008
The Atlanta Lady Kookaburras could be well satisfied with their first three years of playing Aussie Rules Football being undefeated and winning all three USAFL National Championships but there is a fair chance they havent finished yet in shaping the way the game is played here in the US.

With many of the their original 2005 players still playing and a new "swag" of fresh faces in 2007, looking forward to 2008 there are already good signs the good times are far from over just yet. Recently coach Wayne Kraska put together a short tribute to where they have come from for the players to see, enjoy and perhaps motivate them some more (read on). A small reminder they have come a long way from their first official practices in April 2005 and October games in Milwaukee in a 9 aside competition for the first trophy handed out for the sport in the US.

So far over thirty women have either tasted success with the Lady Kookas in official games or at local level and with their success growing to a stage where other teams are now measured on how they perform against the mighty "Atlanta" Lady Kookaburras. This year will most likely see new teams come out of Baltimore-Washington and Denver with perhaps another out of San Diego. Those three all with very strong mens development success to back their womens teams are sure going to test the Atlanta team from here.

But with the greater competition comes greater challenges for the Atlanta ladies and their goals in 2008 to remain undefeated and further develop their right to be called the leaders in the sport in the USA.

To look back and perhaps see how the Lady Kookas will be inspired onto greater triumphs in 2008 have a look at this dedication slide show put together by their Head Coach Wayne Kraska 2005-2007 on where they have been so far.
