A warm and sometimes breezy day greeted the visiting Baton Rouge team who had arrived a little small in numbers but as always full of enthusiasm. The Kookaburras rolled out with a few new faces which is always good to see. Argentinian Nickoli Ambrosinni was back for his second game and Russ Barner was on debut plus a few other players playing still early in their footy careers. It was the first gamer actually Russ Barner who got the Kookas rolling with his first kick in footy a goal and plenty of pats on the back from his new teammates. Mike Frost was playing up forward this week and he added two more to the Kookas total midterm as the Kookas seemed to have a lot more of the ball. In the middle Kewley and LaRosa were having a good day already and with Sheehan and Crist off the backline the day was looking long for the visiting Tiger team. James Glenn also back for his first game for 2007 slipped in for a great goal then followed up with another later in the term as other Kookas peppered shots at the goals. A goal to Baton Rouge big man Guy St Amant was the visitors only real shining light for the quarter as the Kookas slipped away to a 27 point lead at the first change. The goals continued for the Kookas after the break with Ross LaRosa dominating through the center and half forward. He added three goals for the term with others to Baker and Frost. Patty Muller was a lone hand up in the Tigers forward line kicking 1.2 from three tries but as mentioned he was without a lot of help. The Baton Rouge team still lack a lot of experience but not endeavor but at least they are willing to travel, play and learn. All credit to them. At the main break it was Atlanta moving well clear 10.8.68 to Baton Rouge 2.5.17. Injured Rob Montenaro came forward for the Tigers and scored their only goal for the 3rd quarter but the Kookaburras continued on the merry way adding seven goals for the term and really sharpening up their game perhaps with bigger games in mind later in the month. LaRosa added two more and was already close to best afield with his high speed running and classy disposal he is a player to watch. Jennings, Kraska and Baker added a goal each and Ben Crist back from injury after a month off added two nice goals one on the run. At the final change the game was fizzling out to a big win to the Kookas with Atlanta leading 17.12.114 to Baton Rouge 3.8.26 The Kookas didnt take their foot off the gas in the last term either. Brent Kewley who had been awesome all day with Jennings and Mobley kept going and ran the game out well. With Glenn and LaRosa the Kookas are looking good for midfield type players with plenty of options for the coaching staff to throw around and try in different places. Kraska kicked the first for the quarter and Jennings followed soon after with a nice goal. Muller and former Milwaukee player Andy Ciganek answered for the Baton Rouge team who hadnt given in despite the score difference. Frost, Glenn and Baker all contributed goals the later taking some handy marks up forward, a spot where also is going to be a handy player this year. At the final "hooter" it was all the Kookaburras in a great game played in very good spirits by both teams. Atlanta 110 point winners in one of their highest scoring games so far. Congrats to the Baton Rouge team, as always backs to the wall they play hard but fair and are a credit to their team and club leaders.
