A tight contested game with plenty of tough tacking and good fielding by both teams. Atlanta opened strong and took the game right to Charlotte. Good drives to goals and conversions of 3 pointers kept Charlotte under pressure for the entire 1st quarter. Opening up the 2nd quarter Charlotte started to settle and made good use of the favorable breeze to kick some very good points. At the half there was only a point between the teams. For the 3rd quarter Atlanta came back at Charlotte strong and scored some goals but were also denied on a few occasions by the post and the good work of the Charlotte keeper. A good save at the very end of the quarter by Atlanta keeper Michael Frost meant that at the end of the quarter Atlanta maintained a hard won lead. In the 4th quarter both teams were pushing hard and a Charlotte goal mid way through the quarter put them over the top at the end. Officiating for the game was very ably accomplished by Seth McElaveny, Aussie Footy umpire from Raleigh. Game sponsors James Connelly's of Charlotte presented a beautiful cup to the wining team and wined & dinned all participants - thank you very much to Connelly's and Kevin Devin. All in an excellent game on a very hot day. The collaboration between the Irish Clan naGael team and the Atlanta Kookaburras went very well, with the majority of Atlanta players coming from the footy side for this game. Current plan is to plan in Atlanta next year. Atlanta 4. 7. 3 (48) Charlotte 1. 10. 15 (51) Best Players: ATL: Collins, Kelly, Frost, Mobley, Glenn, Whooley CHA: Not supplied
